Description

Rare books – some books are missing dust covers or slightly damaged corners.

Bön is one of the pre-Buddhist religions of Tibet and has its importance. This is the first volume of the Bön Studies Series. In this book, the renowned scholars of Bön Studies have tried to present the significance of Bön Mandalas. It contains 132 Mandalas, with their names and descriptions in Tibetan and Romanized Tibetan. Initially, these Mandalas were painted following the ritual text, which explained the theory and practice of mandalas. The title of the text of each Mandala is given in the book as given in the Bönpo Kangyur and Tengyur. Lopön Tenzin Namdak, a head of Tritan Norbutse Bönpo Monastery, Nepal, writes the Tibetan introduction. The Mandalas in this book are preserved in the National Museum of Ethnology, Osaka, Japan, in the name of the “Tritan Norbutse Collection”. It is hoped that the Bön Studies Series will become the source material to accelerate further studies on this ancient religion of Tibet, which has not received the attention of the scholars and academicians of the world so far.
